music theory: creating custom exercises

GO TO www.musictheory.net

  1. On the top of the screen, select “Exercises”

2. Scroll to the bottom of the “Exercises” page and find the “Exercise Customizer” under the “for Teachers” panel. Click on it.

3. On this page you can select from a variety of different exercises, each testing a different skill. For now, let’s look at the “Note Identification”

4. On this page, you will see various customizing options for your exercise. Look at the picture below to see what each button does:

5. Before we move on, click on “Challenge Mode” at the bottom of the screen:

6. When you are finished customizing, scroll to the bottom of the page and find the unique link. This link is what you can send to students to do your exact exercise. Simply copy it and post it for your students to complete! I also recommend you test out your exercise by taking it yourself. This will ensure it is everything you want them to be working on.

7. Be sure to provide students with directions on how to submit their exercises. I have created a general guide that can be found below (but you will have to let them know how specifically you want them to submit their links/codes)!

Like “Note Identification” each exercise on the “Exercise Customizer” page has its own unique set of customization options. If you are unsure what each option does, use trial and error to figure out which options you are looking for.
